Officials stated the group was allegedly operating under the direction of Pakistani handlers. Their reported plans included targeting key installations like railway infrastructure.
The UP ATS received intelligence about a group in constant contact with a Pakistani handler. This communication occurred through various social media platforms for alleged anti-national activities. The gang’s main objective was to conduct reconnaissance on important targets.
Targets included military installations, railway infrastructure, police stations, and political figures. The plan was to provide obtained information to the Pakistani handler. They then intended to plan and execute harm based on that intelligence.
Following the developed intelligence, Saqib alias ‘Devil’ was arrested. He is a resident of Meerut district. Saqib was in touch with handlers via encrypted platforms like Telegram, Signal, and Instagram.
The official statement noted Saqib had links with radical groups. Besides Saqib, three other individuals were arrested in the operation. They have been identified as Vikas Gehlawat alias Raunak and Lokesh alias Papla Pandit.
Lokesh also used the aliases Babu and Sanju. Both Vikas Gehlawat and Lokesh are residents of Gautam Buddh Nagar. The fourth arrested individual is Arbaab, who is from Meerut.
The arrests highlight ongoing security concerns regarding encrypted communication. Platforms like Telegram and Signal are often cited in such cases. The incident underscores the continued vigilance of state anti-terror units.
