According to local and federal authorities, the victims were the only occupants of the Piper PA-28 aircraft. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from anyone inside the home.
The crash ignited a fire in the home, as confirmed by the Akron Fire Department. Videos shared online depicted the garage engulfed in flames, accompanied by the sound of sirens.
Following the crash, a small portion of the plane’s tail was visible in the home’s driveway. The Federal Aviation Administration stated that the National Transportation Safety Board would oversee the investigation into the incident.
District Fire Chief Sierjie Lash declared the scene active and noted the involvement of multiple local and state agencies, including the Ohio State Fire Marshal. He emphasized, “We are letting residents get to their homes,” while assuring that the immediate area of the crash would be secured.
The plane had taken off from the Akron Fulton Regional Airport, located approximately three miles east of where it crashed. Representatives from the airport had not responded to requests for comments at the time of reporting.
