dailyloe.com – On May 9, a post-prom gathering at the VFW in Fruitport Township resulted in four individuals being shot and two others being struck by cars.
The Fruitport Township Police Department reported the incidents, confirming deputies responded to the VFW after receiving reports of a vehicle striking a person.
While on the way, officers learned of a shooting incident at the same location, revealing multiple shooters were involved.
All four shooting victims were transported to Trinity Health Hospital in Muskegon for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
One person hit by a vehicle sustained serious injuries, and police have launched an active investigation.

Residents near the VFW reported hearing gunfire, with Lisa Bosworth stating she was awoken around 11:30 p.m. by the sounds and saw teens in formal attire fleeing for safety.
Muskegon Public Schools confirmed that some students from the district were at the gathering, along with others from neighboring areas.
Superintendent Matthew T. Cortez stated the district is working with law enforcement to gather accurate information about the incident.
Cortez emphasized that no disruptions occurred during school-sponsored prom events, which were safe and well-attended celebrations for the Class of 2026.
Additionally, the district will provide crisis response team members to support students.
Earlier that same evening, another post-prom shooting occurred about two hours south in Pine Township, Indiana, resulting in one death and two injuries.
