Recent videos showing groups of men emerging from sewer covers in Brooklyn have prompted an investigation by the New York Police Department (NYPD). According to police, there is currently no threat to the public.

As reported by NBC News, the videos surfaced last week, depicting men climbing out of manholes in various neighborhoods. Police have confirmed there have been no immediate arrests related to these incidents.

Investigation into Sewer Incidents

The NYPD’s leading theory suggests that the individuals are searching the sewer system for valuables that may have entered the sewage. A senior law enforcement official stated that the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit was deployed to inspect the sewer system.

These officers found no evidence of any threats or unusual activity left behind by the individuals. Additionally, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) examined the sewer system and reported no damage to its equipment.

Details of the Videos

The videos, timestamped around 2 a.m. on a Friday, show a man in a white shirt lifting a manhole cover to allow seven others to emerge. The group, clad in coveralls or protective clothing, quickly changes outfits near McDonald and Bedford avenues.

Another video shows a man in a red shirt opening a manhole cover from below before climbing into a busy street. Following him, six individuals emerge, with at least three carrying shovels and all appearing to wear headlamps.

Public Safety Concerns and Next Steps

Although police have not connected the two video incidents, they continue to investigate. Authorities are also reassuring the public about safety amid these unusual occurrences.

As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement remains vigilant in ensuring that the sewer system is secure and that no illegal activity poses a threat to the community.
