Kaitlyn Rose Laura, 30, was arrested by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office in late March. She is charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
An arrest warrant reviewed by CBS News Texas details the allegations against Laura. She is accused of lying about her son’s medical history to obtain an unneeded feeding tube in June 2025. The child underwent the related surgery at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
The 18-page warrant states a Glen Rose police officer contacted Tarrant County detectives in February 2026. The officer alleged Laura forced her son to use a feeding tube and a wheelchair he did not require. She is also accused of giving him unnecessary medication.
According to the warrant, the case presented jurisdictional challenges. The surgery occurred in Fort Worth, but Laura resides in Glen Rose. Fort Worth police referred the investigation to the Glen Rose Police Department due to her residence.
The Glen Rose department then referred the case to the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office. No law enforcement action was initially taken there. The warrant notes the small Glen Rose police force lacked resources for such a complex investigation.
A Child Protective Services investigator contacted Tarrant County in February 2026. The investigator reported Laura and her son tried to leave Children’s Medical Center Dallas against medical advice. Laura had been flagged to child abuse pediatricians for suspected medical child abuse.
The investigator stated Laura claimed her son could not eat by mouth. She also reportedly kept him confined in a posey bed. A posey bed is a tent-like enclosure that can only be opened from the outside.
If Laura posts bond, she is prohibited from contacting her son. The bond conditions also bar contact with any child under 17. She cannot contact her child’s immediate family either.
Medical child abuse involves a caregiver fabricating or inducing illness in a child. This case highlights the severe legal consequences for such actions. The investigation involved multiple law enforcement and child welfare agencies across North Texas.[]
