Retired Superior Court Judge Brenda Harbin-Forte called the footage very disturbing. Harbin-Forte investigates civil rights violations for the Oakland NAACP. She stated that Shaquille Coleman should not have been handcuffed during the incident.
San Leandro police admitted Coleman had committed no crimes. Officers forced him into a patrol car and pulled out his braids. They then transported him to Oakland, an act they described as ‘dumping’ him.
The I-Team reports that Police Chief Angela Averiett is attending roll calls. She is reportedly stating that no one did anything wrong. This stance contrasts sharply with the NAACP’s condemnation of the actions.
