dailyloe.com – Lena Dunham attended the 2026 Met Gala on May 4, showcasing her bold fashion choices at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The 39-year-old actress wore a red Valentino gown adorned with sequins and featured a giant boa train cascading from her bust.

This year’s gala supported the Costume Institute’s “Costume Art” exhibit, inspiring attendees to interpret the “Fashion Is Art” theme.

Dunham’s appearance marked her first Met Gala since the 2019 event, where she attended alongside her Girls co-star Jemima Kirke.

At the 2019 gala, Dunham wore a black latex glove and a baby pink bow dress with the word “Rubberist” displayed prominently.

In an interview with W Magazine, she expressed her disdain for those who disregard the theme of the event.

She stated, “I hate it when people are jerks about the theme, which is supposed to celebrate the exhibition, anyway.”

Dunham has been known for her unconventional style, often referring to herself as a “tacky b—h” while embracing clothing as a form of self-expression.

She mentioned, “Just because I’m not always making ‘elegant’ choices doesn’t mean I don’t have a perspective,” in her January post on Good Thing Going.

Her fashion choices often draw inspiration from cultural connections and emotional memories.

Dunham also humorously shared how her chronic illness has influenced her shopping habits on platforms like eBay and Etsy.

She credits her unique outlook on fashion to her filmmaker mother, Laurie Simmons, stating she was never indoctrinated by conventional fashion norms.

“Because I have a ‘cool’ mom and got to watch her and all of her friends wear layered black and ironic J. Crew menswear, I was never indoctrinated with an idea about how women are ‘supposed’ to dress,” Dunham explained.

She added, “At least not until I started dating—nothing like a straight man with no personal style to lay out the rules of fashion!”
