dailyloe.com – The Flotilla vessel Trinidad sank in the Mediterranean due to a storm while heading to Crete. Twelve individuals, including activists and crew members, were rescued by an Open Arms ship.
Antonella Bundu, a former candidate for the presidency of Tuscany, reported on the situation. She stated, “The Trinidad has sunk. Yesterday was the first day of ‘tormenta’ (storm in Spanish).”
Bundu described how the boat began to break apart after several hours of rough seas. She noted, “The railing on the left side flew away, leaving significant holes on the deck.”
Water entered from above and below as the crew attempted to abandon the vessel. They requested assistance from Open Arms via radio, which sent a rubber dinghy for their rescue.
“They take us one by one, I last, the captain decides to stay on the boat,” Bundu emphasized. Rescuers shouted instructions in Spanish to communicate over the noise of the sea.
Bundu managed to bring only a small canvas bag and her passport secured in a plastic pouch around her neck. After being rescued, they were taken to the mother ship.
Upon arrival, they received Open Arms uniforms, took warm showers, and washed their dirty clothes. Bundu mentioned, “We are 12 shipwrecked individuals in total.”
The group was shown their sleeping quarters where they could rest in shifts of four hours. Bundu shared, “I go to bed at 11 PM and wake up at 3 AM.” They are now officially shipwrecked and awaiting a port for disembarkation.
