MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The community and staff at Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitor’s Bureau are preparing for the NCAA Baseball Regional this weekend at Kendrick Family Ballpark. This event follows the successful hosting of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional just a few months ago.
CVB Communications Director Hannah Winnaught mentioned that while the venue differs, many planning aspects remain similar to the previous event. “It feels like we just got off the high from March Madness and hosting NCAA Women’s Basketball,” she stated during an interview on WAJR’s “Talk of the Town.”
As the weekend approaches, tickets for the games are sold out, although reputable secondary ticket brokers may assist fans in finding seats. While precise crowd numbers are not confirmed, Winnaught anticipates that a few thousand people will gather at the ballpark.
“It looks like the ballpark will be filled throughout the entire weekend,” she noted. The Kendrick Family Ballpark accommodates up to 2,500 people, plus standing room, which suggests a packed venue for the games.
The matchup schedule includes West Virginia playing Binghamton on Friday evening at 5 o’clock, followed by Wake Forest and Kentucky competing at noon on the same day. Residents in the Granville area are advised to prepare for increased traffic, especially since Emmett Drive, a frequently used shortcut, will remain closed due to a slip.
Winnaught emphasized that all ground routes in and around Granville will experience heightened congestion, which may prompt residents to adjust their weekend plans. “They might stop somewhere before the game, and they might stop after the game—hopefully they do stop at a couple of places,” she suggested.
In contrast to the previous NCAA event, local hotels are currently equipped to accommodate all four teams participating in this baseball regional. During the NCAA basketball regional, one team and an unspecified number of fans had to seek lodging outside the area.
“Fortunately, this time we were able to host all of the teams in Monongalia County, so we’re thrilled to be able to do that,” Winnaught said. She added that while some fans might still need to stay elsewhere, it is a significant improvement to have all teams situated in local hotels.
