Season 3 was originally set to air in 2025 but faced multiple delays. These delays included creator Sam Levinson’s work on ‘The Idol’ and industry strikes.
The dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in late 2023 prolonged the wait for new episodes. The cast also experienced the loss of actor Angus Cloud in July 2023. Cloud died at age 25 from an accidental overdose. His character Fezco’s fate will be addressed in the upcoming season.
Creator Sam Levinson spoke about the delays at the season 3 premiere in April 2026. He cited the strikes and scheduling with the in-demand cast as factors. Levinson said significant time was spent figuring out how to honor those lost. He expressed deep affection for Angus Cloud and discussed the impact of his death.
“When Angus died, it was tough. I loved him deeply, and I fought hard to keep him clean,” Levinson said. He noted Cloud was one of 73,000 people in America who died from a fentanyl overdose in 2023. Levinson reflected that death gives life meaning and forces a reckoning with existence. He described life as a wonder, a gift, and a profound blessing.
Levinson also explained how the show will pay tribute on screen. He said there are scenes where characters talk to Cloud’s character. The trailer also featured Eric Dane’s character Cal one month after the actor’s death. Eric Dane died at age 53 following a battle with ALS.
Returning original stars for season 3 include Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi. Newcomers joining the cast are Jessica Treska, Darrell Britt-Gibson, and Toby Wallace. The show was quickly renewed for a second season after its 2019 premiere. However, nearly three years passed before the second batch of episodes aired.
