dailyloe.com – Director Christopher Nolan has confirmed that his upcoming film The Odyssey will have a shorter runtime than his previous film Oppenheimer.
This decision is due to the limitations of 70mm IMAX projectors, which generally support a maximum runtime of three hours or 180 minutes.
The Odyssey is based on the ancient Greek epic attributed to Homer and features an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
Nolan acknowledged the pressure of adapting such a beloved story, stating, “There’s a massive amount of pressure.”
He added, “Anyone taking on The Odyssey is taking on the hopes and dreams of people for epic movies everywhere, and that comes with a huge responsibility.”
The runtime for The Odyssey has been updated, and it has been confirmed that it will be shorter than Oppenheimer, which has a three-hour runtime.
Producer Emma Thomas indicated that The Odyssey will conclude its storyline in under three hours.
Nolan explained, “It’s an epic film, as the subject matter demands. But it is shorter.”
His experience from making the Dark Knight trilogy has helped him navigate the expectations surrounding this project.
Nolan emphasized that what audiences desire from a film about a beloved story is a “strong and sincere interpretation.”
He stated, “They want to know that a filmmaker has gone to the mat for it. I really tried to make the best film possible.”
Nolan has developed The Odyssey from a script he wrote himself, ensuring his vision is reflected in the film.
