dailyloe.com – Brenda Song has revealed her strategies for balancing a career with parenting her two children alongside fiancé Macaulay Culkin. The actress, 38, discussed her family life in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE published on April 18, 2026. She spoke about shifting her work-life perspective after becoming a mother to sons Dakota, 5, and Carson, 3.

Song explained that she and Culkin, 45, follow a strict ‘two-week rule’ regarding work travel. She stated they never are away for more than two weeks. The arrival of their children made balancing schedules more complex. She said she had to learn to prioritize time with her kids.

“I really had to be really intentional about it when kids came along,” Song told PEOPLE. “Mac and I always had a two-week rule. We never are away for more than two weeks, but kids came along and it became very different, because now we’re balancing so many other things.” She said she had to let go of certain personal tasks to create that family time.

“I had to let go of certain things because I wanted to spend time with my kids,” she continued. The couple makes a concerted effort to be present for daily routines. Song noted that pick-up and drop-off for the boys is always handled by one of them. She expressed gratitude for their ability to always have a parent at home.

The actress also revealed they do not employ a traditional nanny. This is thanks to the active involvement of her own parents. Song shared a humorous anecdote about her mother’s reaction to the idea of hiring help.

“My mom literally looked at me and was like, ‘If you get a nanny, I will be insulted,'” Song said with a laugh. She stated this familial support helps alleviate feelings of ‘mom guilt’. She feels fortunate to have her parents so present in her children’s lives.

Song described her parents’ involvement as a significant blessing. She called them ‘the best’ for their role. The interview focused on her personal approach to parenting rather than her professional projects. She emphasized that being a mother is her most important role.
