dailyloe.com – Two women, Lisa Horace, 51, and Tonya Nelson, 58, are reportedly banned from Carnival cruises following a slapping fight on a Carnival Spirit ship.
The incident occurred when Nelson confronted Horace and her husband over a dispute regarding standing in the wrong line to settle their cruise accounts, according to court documents.
Horace initially ignored Nelson’s confrontations until Nelson touched her husband’s shoulder multiple times, escalating tensions between the two women.
The argument quickly led to both women slapping each other in front of bystanders, prompting Carnival staff to intervene, as noted in the court records.
Both women appeared in federal court on Wednesday, where U.S. Magistrate Judge Bert Milling Jr. had them sit next to each other during the proceedings.
Nelson expressed regret for the situation, stating, “I’m just sorry that we’re here.” Horace emphasized that the consequences extend beyond the court case.
As a result of the incident, both women have been banned from all Carnival cruises and lost their Diamond member status, which requires sailing 200 days and earning 200 VIFP points.
This Diamond member status can be costly, potentially amounting to tens of thousands of dollars.
Horace mentioned that her husband is a retired Navy veteran and that cruising together brings them peace of mind.
Nelson’s attorney, Buzz Jordan, commented, “Things happen sometimes on a crowded ship. You know, we’ve got big crowds involved, so that’s how I think this happened.” He expressed hope that Carnival would reinstate both women.
Jordan stated, “I’m hoping that Carnival will reinstate both of them so they can continue traveling with Carnival.” Horace’s attorney declined to provide an interview but expressed relief that the court proceedings were over.
After leaving the courthouse, he remarked, “We’re just glad it’s over,” and mentioned that both women are considered great citizens.
The final decision regarding the case is set for August 12, 2026.
