dailyloe.com – U.S. skiing legend Lindsey Vonn is making strides in her recovery journey following a severe crash at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. The 41-year-old Olympic medalist recently posted on her Instagram Story about her “first big travel,” providing fans with an emotional glimpse into her return to normalcy.

This announcement comes months after a downhill crash that abruptly ended her Olympic comeback. Vonn was seen at the Los Angeles airport using crutches, indicating her ongoing recovery process.

Vonn’s recovery has been extensive since February 8, 2026, when she crashed just 13 seconds into her women’s downhill run. The incident resulted in a complex tibia fracture in her left leg, necessitating an airlift to a hospital for treatment.

Throughout her recovery, Vonn has undergone multiple surgeries, facing a near-amputation of her leg due to complications from compartment syndrome. In total, she has had five surgeries and is engaged in intense rehabilitation.

Despite the physical challenges, Vonn has remained transparent with her fans about her journey. Nearly three months post-crash, she has shared her emotional struggles alongside her physical recovery.

In an interview with People, Vonn discussed the difficulties she faced, particularly the loss of independence during her hospital stay. “It’s definitely been up and down,” she noted regarding her mental health during rehab.

Vonn expressed that the last month has been better, but acknowledged experiencing low moments. “I hate being dependent on people, and was pretty much 100% dependent for everything,” she stated, reflecting on the challenges of being immobile for two and a half weeks.

She also recounted a moment of extreme pain during her treatment, describing it as a strong emotional memory. “Halfway through, I started sweating. I was just in such extreme pain. I screamed at the top of my lungs: Get me out,” she told Vanity Fair.

This experience has left a lasting impact on her, as she described the pain as something that is “seared into my brain.” Vonn’s journey continues as she navigates both the physical and emotional aspects of her recovery.
