dailyloe.com – A new temple will be built in Marysville, Washington, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The First Presidency announced the decision on Sunday. Elder Hugo E. Martinez shared the news during a devotional in the Marysville Washington Stake. This follows a pattern established in late 2025 for announcing new temples.
The First Presidency’s statement expressed pleasure in announcing the temple’s construction. The specific location and timing will be announced at a later date. The statement called it a reason to rejoice and express gratitude. It noted the temple will allow more frequent access to sacred ordinances.
President Dallin H. Oaks taught about temple centrality in October 2025. He said Church doctrine centers on the family. Essential to that doctrine is the temple, he stated. Temple ordinances enable eternal families to return to God’s presence.
The Marysville temple will be the seventh in Washington state. Other temples are in Columbia River, Moses Lake, and Seattle. Spokane, Tacoma, and Vancouver also have temples. The state’s first temple was completed in Seattle in 1980.
Church history in Washington dates back to the 1850s. Many Latter-day Saints helped build regional railroads in the 1880s. Membership was 1,900 in eight congregations by 1930. Chapels were located in Everett, Spokane, Seattle, and Olympia then.
Many members arrived with the Grand Coulee Dam’s completion. The dam on the Columbia River was finished in the early 1940s. Washington now has approximately 278,000 Church members. They worship in more than 470 congregations across the state.
This new announcement brings the global temple total to 384. That figure includes operating, under construction, and announced temples. The announcement was made locally by a member of the Area Presidency. This continues the pattern set by the First Presidency in late 2025.
