dailyloe.com – Justin Thomas is currently competing at the Truist Championship in Charlotte, N.C., where he is in contention after reaching 7-under par. His performance follows a strong start to the season, including a six-shot victory at last week’s Cadillac Championship and a T3 finish at the Masters.
Cameron Young, who leads the FedExCup and ranks third in the Official World Golf Ranking, has inspired Thomas. When considering a new putter, Thomas requested to use Young’s. “I literally texted (Scotty Cameron rep) Drew Page and said, ‘Just give me Cam’s putter,’” Thomas stated.
Thomas received the new putter on Monday and joked about their similar footwear during their first two rounds together. “It’s like, I promise I’m not trying to copy everything you do,” he said. “But I’m maybe trying to copy everything you do. I don’t know.”
Currently, Thomas is in third place after shooting rounds of 67 and 68, just two strokes behind leader Sungjae Im. He will play alongside Alex Fitzpatrick in the final group on Saturday.
This is not Thomas’s first time competing at Quail Hollow; he won his first major title, the 2017 PGA Championship, at this venue. Despite having played only six tournaments this season due to recovery from a November microdiscectomy, he feels positive about his performance.
So far, he has one top-10 finish, a T8 at THE PLAYERS, which was his second event of the year. Thomas commented on his recovery, saying, “I feel like I’m swinging it a little better. But it’s never as far off.” He expressed that while he has played well, he has not yet achieved the desired results.
