dailyloe.com – A convicted German transgender right-wing extremist has been arrested in the Czech Republic. Marla-Svenja Liebich was arrested on a European arrest warrant. The arrest occurred in Krásná, east of Prague. Liebich had been on the run for several months.
Liebich failed to appear at a prison in Chemnitz, Germany in August 2025. She was to serve an 18-month jail term there. The Halle District Court in Saxon-Anhalt sentenced her in July 2023. She received one year and six months without parole.
The conviction was for extreme right incitement to hatred. It also included charges of defamation and insult. Liebich appealed against this sentence and lost. At the time of that trial, she was known as Sven Liebich.
A spokesperson for the Halle public prosecutor’s office confirmed the arrest. The spokesperson told the BBC Liebich is now in Czech custody. Extradition proceedings to Germany are expected to follow. The arrest was made some 100km east of Prague.
German media reports say Liebich was a neo-Nazi group member. The group is named Blood and Honour. Reports also detail Liebich’s gender entry change. She changed it from male to female at the end of 2024.
She also legally changed her first name. This used Germany’s new Self-Determination Act. The act had just come into force. It strengthened transgender people’s rights in the country.
The Act allows a simple declaration at a registry office. This replaces the need for a judicial ruling. It is for changing gender markers and first names. German media have questioned if Liebich’s transition was serious.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt accused Liebich of abuse. He said this to ZDF TV last year. Dobrindt is a member of the CSU party. He called the gender change a clear case of abusing the act.
According to the ‘Mitteldeutsche Zeitung’, Liebich wore men’s clothing. She also had a shaved head at the time of arrest. It is understood she briefly tried to evade capture. The prosecutor’s spokesperson did not comment on her appearance.[]
