dailyloe.com – Gwinnett County police have charged four individuals for operating two unlicensed personal care homes in Snellville. The charges follow an investigation where 14 elderly and disabled residents were discovered living in unsafe conditions last Thursday.
On April 30, police executed search warrants on two homes located on Pond Edge Road. Reports indicated these properties were functioning as unauthorized care facilities, leading to the discovery of expired food, beverages, and medications.
One resident, who suffers from dementia, required immediate medical attention and was subsequently taken to the hospital. The four suspects were arrested on May 5 and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail, each facing two counts of operating an unlicensed personal care home.
According to Gwinnett County Police Corporal Ryan Winderweedle, the evidence collected at the scene highlighted significant risks to resident safety. Winderweedle noted, “They located expired medications, expired foods, expired drinks when conducting a search warrant, took photos of the living conditions and went from there.”
Following the investigation, it was reported that one of the suspects attempted to convince residents to return the following day, despite Adult Protective Services issuing a cease-and-desist order. Winderweedle stated that this order meant the facilities could no longer operate legally.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant when selecting care homes for loved ones. Winderweedle advised, “If you feel like your loved one or family member is in a facility like this, reach out and have a police report done, and detectives will look into it.”
