The airline will continue operating up to 11 weekly flights to the US through Los Angeles and San Francisco, with connections via American Airlines. Paul Scurrah, managing director and CEO of Fiji Airways, discussed these changes during an interview with Travel Weekly.
Fiji Airways is upgrading its Vancouver services to an A350 and increasing frequencies to Hong Kong from September. The airline is experiencing strong demand from Australia and New Zealand.
Most affected passengers can travel on the same day using alternative arrangements through Los Angeles or via San Francisco and Vancouver services. Fiji Airways stated it is taking measures to minimize customer impact.
Customers will receive direct communication regarding updated travel details soon. Flexible options, including rebooking, credit, or refunds, will be available as needed.
The airline will maintain up to 11 flights per week to the US, with connections to Dallas Fort Worth through American Airlines. Scurrah emphasized that these changes allow the airline to focus on markets with strong and sustainable demand.
Fiji Airways will upgrade its three weekly Vancouver services from the A330 to the A350 effective September 8. Additionally, it will increase Hong Kong flights to four per week year-round starting September 22.
Despite the global aviation industry’s rising costs, particularly with jet fuel prices more than doubling this year, Fiji Airways reports resilient demand from key markets. Scurrah noted that Fiji reached an all-time visitor record in March.
He stated, “Our forward bookings continue to be encouraging and reflect a level of increased interest in Fiji as a safe and family-friendly destination.”
