dailyloe.com – Emirates SkyCargo has launched a new weekly freighter service to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). This initiative aims to reshape North American logistics by transitioning from traditional passenger cargo to dedicated freighter services. The launch responds to the growing global demand for specialized heavy freight.
The service will commence in April 2026, utilizing the Boeing 777 Freighter, which has a cargo capacity of 103 tonnes. The new route operates every Friday, connecting Dubai, Amsterdam, and Toronto. The flight begins at Dubai World Central (DWC), makes a stop at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), and then arrives in Toronto.
On the return trip, the freighter flies directly from Toronto back to Dubai. This dedicated service adds an additional 100 tonnes of cargo capacity weekly to Emirates’ existing operations. The introduction of this freighter service is expected to significantly boost cross-border trade.
Trade between Canada and the UAE increased by 24% from 2023 to 2024, highlighting the importance of this new service. The primary cargo types are pharmaceuticals, perishables, and European manufactured goods coming into Toronto. Outbound cargo includes high-value electronics, industrial components, and specialized machinery.
Toronto Pearson handles nearly 45% of Canada’s total air freight. With this new freighter link, Emirates SkyCargo strengthens YYZ’s position as a key logistics hub connecting North America to the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The service provides Canadian exporters of time-sensitive goods with guaranteed weekly capacity.
This development is part of Emirates SkyCargo’s broader growth strategy for 2024-2026, which includes acquiring ten new Boeing 777 freighters by the end of 2026. The Amsterdam stop enhances connectivity and efficiency for goods traveling to and from Canada.
