dailyloe.com – Erik Per Sullivan has declined a significant financial offer to reprise his role as Dewey in the Disney+ reboot of Malcolm in the Middle. The actor, now 34, has chosen to focus on his academic career at Harvard University. This decision was confirmed by his former co-star Jane Kaczmarek in a recent interview.

Kaczmarek stated that Sullivan was offered ‘buckets of money’ to return for the four-episode revival. She explained that he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Victorian literature. Sullivan reportedly said ‘No thank you’ to the substantial offer from producers.

The revival series reunites original cast members Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek. It also features Chris Masterson and Justin Berfield returning as Malcolm’s older brothers. The new story follows an adult Malcolm who is now raising a daughter.

Frankie Muniz expressed full respect for Sullivan’s personal choice. He noted that Sullivan is very happy with the life he has built outside of entertainment. The cast had Sullivan’s blessing to recast the role of Dewey for the reboot.

Erik Per Sullivan starred in the original series from its 2000 debut until 2006. He has not acted since 2010, with his last film appearance being in ‘Twelve’. Sullivan has maintained a notably low public profile for nearly two decades.

His first public sighting in 18 years occurred in Boston in April 2025. He was photographed leaving his house to get a coffee. This rare appearance highlighted his continued retreat from the Hollywood spotlight.[]
