dailyloe.com – Morehouse College will host 12-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul as the keynote speaker for its 142nd Commencement on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 9 a.m.
Paul will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters, joining Chris Womack, CEO of Southern Company, and Rev. Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr., the retiring founding dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel.
Paul expressed his honor in speaking at Morehouse, stating, “I have a deep respect for Morehouse’s legacy and impact on our community, especially on generations of young Black men.”
He aims to inspire the Class of 2026 to uphold principles of character and community commitment. Paul’s address will conclude a week of reunion events celebrating the class and notable alumni anniversaries.
Among the alumni being celebrated are Khalil “DJ Khalil” Abdul-Rahman, Milton Little Jr., Stephen Reed, Albert Sanders, Rashaun Williams, and Raphael Warnock.
Chris Womack, who joined Southern Company in 1988, is one of only nine African American Fortune 500 CEOs in the U.S. He has served as chairman, president, and CEO, overseeing nine million customers.
Rev. Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr. is retiring after 47 years of service to Morehouse College, contributing significantly to its community.
