dailyloe.com – Syracuse University celebrated its Class of 2026 during the annual Commencement ceremony held in the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday, May 10.
Approximately 6,679 candidates received their degrees, conferred by Acting Chancellor J. Michael Haynie. NBC Sports broadcaster Mike Tirico, a 1988 alumnus, delivered the keynote address.
The event featured family, friends, faculty, and fellow students, showcasing the energy and pride of the graduates. Senior Class Marshals Chidera Olalere and Silke Pion led their classmates into the dome.
Fr. Gerry Waterman from Hendricks Chapel delivered the invocation. Tirico, also a vice chair of the Board of Trustees, emphasized the significance of the day.
Honorary degrees were awarded during the ceremony. Clifford J. Ensley, a University trustee, received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree.
Le Moyne College President Linda M. LeMura was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters degree, being the first female layperson to lead a Jesuit institution.
Additionally, Dr. Ruth Chen received an honorary doctor of science degree from Board of Trustees Chair Jeffrey M. Scruggs. Dr. Mantosh Dewan was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree by Haynie.
The Commencement celebration captured the achievements and milestones of the Class of 2026, embodying Orange pride.
