dailyloe.com – A former Chick-fil-A employee has been charged with defrauding the company of $80,000 in a mac-and-cheese scheme. The Grapevine Police Department in Texas reported that the individual returned to a Chick-fil-A location despite being fired a month earlier.
Keyshun Jones, 23, allegedly accessed the restaurant’s counter and processed catering-sized orders of mac-and-cheese. He then refunded the total cost of 800 trays to his personal credit cards, according to police.
Authorities attempted to arrest Jones multiple times before successfully apprehending him on April 17. He now faces charges of property theft, money laundering, and evading arrest.
Jones is currently held at Green Bay prison in Fort Worth, Texas. His lawyer has not provided any comments on the case, as reported by The New York Times.
The Chick-fil-A catering menu lists the price of a large tray of mac-and-cheese at around $100, varying by location. The dish contains nearly 10,000 calories, featuring three types of cheese.
Surveillance footage from the restaurant shows Jones returning and using the register behind the service counter while dressed in a brown puffer vest and blue jeans, not in the company’s uniform.
He allegedly manipulated the restaurant’s point-of-sale system to issue unauthorized refunds. The circumstances surrounding his termination prior to the incident remain unclear.
Jones was arrested following a collaboration between the Texas attorney general’s Fugitive Task Force and the Fort Worth Police Department. The BBC has reached out to Chick-fil-A for further comments.
