dailyloe.com – University of Missouri basketball has secured a commitment from Kansas transfer forward Bryson Tiller. The 6-foot-11 player announced his decision on Tuesday morning. He is switching sides in the Border War rivalry between the two schools. Tiller previously played against Missouri for Kansas.
Tiller chose Missouri after taking a visit with the program on Sunday. He selected the Tigers over several other high-major teams. Those teams reportedly included Michigan, Georgia Tech, NC State, Arizona, and Miami. He had visited the Miami Hurricanes just days before his commitment.
The forward was originally scheduled to visit Arizona on Wednesday. He canceled that trip following his visit to Missouri. His decision adds a significant piece to Coach Dennis Gates’s roster for the upcoming season. The Tigers’ staff still has roster holes to fill this offseason.
Bryson Tiller was a highly-rated prospect coming out of high school. He was rated as the No. 20 prospect in the Class of 2025. He held an offer from Missouri before reclassifying to join Kansas early. He joined the Jayhawks on January 6 while rehabbing an ankle injury.
After redshirting his first year, Tiller became a full-time starter for Kansas. He averaged 7.9 points per game during the season. He also averaged 6.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks per contest. His performance included a notable game against Missouri on December 7.
In that game, Tiller scored 13 points against the Tigers. He also recorded five rebounds and five blocks in the contest. Kansas won that matchup by a score of 80-60. The game was played inside the T-Mobile Center.
247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein provided a scouting report on Tiller. Finkelstein said, ‘Tiller is long and powerful with a developing inside-out skill set.’ He noted Tiller’s recent physical measurements were exceptionally impressive for a player.
Finkelstein reported Tiller measured 6-foot-10 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan. His standing reach was measured at 9-foot-3 with 11-inch hands. The scout described Tiller’s frame as sculpted and powerful. His physical tools are considered off the charts for his position.
The scouting report highlighted Tiller’s comfort in the mid-post area. Finkelstein said he often chooses to face-up against defenders. He is consistently able to score over contesting defenders in the mid-range. His shooting touch is extending out to the three-point arc with more consistency.
Finkelstein also noted Tiller is a big screener in offensive sets. He presents a tough match-up in two-man games because of his versatility. He can effectively roll to the basket or pop out for a shot. This versatility makes him a valuable offensive weapon.
Defensively, Tiller is described as fundamentally sound and reliable. Finkelstein said he is a generally reliable team defender. He possesses adequate lateral mobility for his size. This allows him to guard multiple positions effectively.
In the transfer portal, Tiller was ranked as the No. 35 available player. He joins a Missouri transfer class that already features two other players. Those players are Tennessee big man Jaylen Carey and Providence wing Jamier Jones. The trio will significantly bolster the Tigers’ frontcourt.
Missouri’s current frontcourt includes Trent Pierce, Toni Bryant, and Trent Burns. It also features Nicholas Randall and Luke Northweather. The addition of Tiller adds size and experience to this group. Coach Gates is building his roster for the upcoming campaign.
