dailyloe.com – Minutes after a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents Dinner, Donald Trump was removed from the stage by US Secret Service agents. Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, was among the first world leaders to publicly condemn the attack. In a post on X, she stated, “We reject the attempt of aggression against President Trump and his wife, Melania, to whom we extend our good wishes, as well as to the attendees of the Correspondents’ Dinner.”

Rodríguez emphasized that “violence will never be an option for those of us who defend the banners of peace.” This comment has drawn criticism for associating Trump with peace while ignoring his administration’s actions. The World Socialist Web Site opposes political violence, stating that it strengthens reactionary forces.

However, the site also notes that portraying Trump and US imperialism as victims obscures their systemic violence. Trump is reportedly using the incident to further his authoritarian agenda and undermine democratic processes in the United States.

Rodríguez’s remark aligns with a similar statement from Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, and is seen as providing political cover for Washington’s aggressive actions in Latin America. This is particularly troubling given recent events in Venezuela, where a US military operation aimed to kidnap President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

The January 3 operation involved heavily armed special forces descending from helicopters. It was marked by violence, resulting in over 100 deaths, including civilians. Soldiers used advanced technology to breach secure locations, killing guards without sustaining fatalities themselves.

This assault was preceded by a bombing raid that left Caracas in darkness, showcasing the brutal nature of US interventions. Residents described the chaos and fear that engulfed their city during this operation.
