dailyloe.com – The UK is redeploying the HMS Dragon to the Middle East in anticipation of a potential international mission. This mission aims to safeguard shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The warship will be positioned to contribute once hostilities between Iran and US-Israeli forces conclude.

Donald Trump stated he expects a response from Iran regarding a US peace proposal. As of Saturday morning, no response from Iran had been announced. Trump mentioned, “I’m getting a letter supposedly tonight,” when addressing reporters.

Negotiations remain uncertain as hostilities persist between the US and Iran. Recently, the US Navy attacked two Iranian-flagged oil tankers, which were accused of violating the American blockade. This incident followed an exchange of fire between US and Iranian forces on Thursday night.

In response, Iran has accused the US of violating a ceasefire, which Trump insists is still in effect. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, criticized the US for choosing a “reckless military adventure” instead of pursuing diplomatic solutions.

Simultaneously, EU leaders are expressing their commitment to NATO and addressing the challenges posed by the Iran conflict. German chancellor Friedrich Merz indicated that Europe desires a robust NATO alliance despite differences with the US regarding the war in Iran.

Merz highlighted the importance of maintaining the alliance for future cooperation. He acknowledged existing challenges while asserting the goal to work collectively toward resolution.
