dailyloe.com – Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 9, after the BJP achieved a historic victory in the state elections.
Adhikari is the first CM from the BJP in West Bengal. He claimed victory by defeating Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by over 15,000 votes.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and numerous BJP leaders.
During the event, Modi was greeted with chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as he arrived at the venue. He flew into the city and traveled to the grounds in an open vehicle.
The BJP won 207 out of 294 seats in the Assembly elections. Thousands gathered to witness this significant political moment in Bengal.
Adhikari’s rise included victories in both Nandigram and Bhabanipur during the elections. His leadership was recognized when Amit Shah named him the BJP Legislature Party leader.
After meeting with Governor R N Ravi, Adhikari formally staked his claim to form the government, accompanied by senior BJP figures.
In his remarks following the appointment, Adhikari expressed gratitude to BJP’s national president and Amit Shah for their support.
