dailyloe.com – U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks announced his resignation on Thursday, effective immediately. He stated, “It’s just time,” during an interview with Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin.
Banks expressed pride in his tenure, claiming, “I feel like I got the ship back on course from the least secure, disastrous, chaotic border to the most secure border this country has ever seen.” He emphasized that after 37 years, it is time to enjoy family and life.
Raised in Warner Robins, Georgia, Banks was primarily brought up by his grandmother. He began working at a young age, helping to support his family by picking peaches alongside migrant farmworkers.
Banks enlisted in the military at 17, serving for a decade in law enforcement roles both overseas and in the U.S. He joined the U.S. Border Patrol in 2000 after hearing stories from CBP agents.
During his 23 years with the Border Patrol, Banks held various leadership positions and worked in multiple units, including ATVs, horse patrol, bikes, boats, and investigations. He expressed frustration over what he termed the “destruction” of morale and border security under the Biden administration.
After retiring from the Border Patrol, Banks worked for the state of Texas but returned to lead the agency under the second Trump administration. His leadership came after witnessing further deterioration of the situation at the border.
