dailyloe.com – Jesse Kardon, known as Subtronics, will perform at Coachella’s Sahara Tent this year. The 33-year-old DJ is the highest-billed dubstep-rooted artist at the festival. He will play on Sunday and April 19. This marks his proper debut at the Indio, California event.
Subtronics has built a career over the last 15 years. He started playing small clubs in Philadelphia. His career now includes a headlining set at the Sphere in Las Vegas. He also completed six sold-out shows at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium in December.
He performed a surprise set at Coachella’s Do Lab stage in 2022. The Do Lab is an intimate electronic-focused stage. This year’s performance is on a much larger platform. The Sahara Tent is one of Coachella’s biggest stages.
EDM comprises nearly 45% of this year’s Coachella lineup. Artists from the dubstep and riddim scene are rarely given such prominence. Subtronics’ booking is a notable exception. His sound has expanded in recent years.
His remix of John Summit’s ‘Crystallized feat. Inéz’ has garnered praise. ‘Fibonacci Pt. 2’ is his latest math-inspired release. It interweaves melodic and heavy elements. Tracks like ‘Infinity’ and ‘Contour’ also stand out.
Subtronics remains committed to bringing more people to dubstep. He will never forget playing drums as a kid. That taught him the foundations of rhythm. He carries Philadelphia hip-hop and trap sounds into his work.
Dubstep has affected his life in personal ways. A shared love of the scene brought him closer to his sister. He later met Sonya Broner, the dubstep artist known as Level Up. Broner is now his wife and they often collaborate.
Subtronics will perform two Southland shows between his Coachella sets. He plays at the Fox Theater in Pomona on Tuesday. He also performs at the GV Surf Club in Palm Springs on April 18. These shows are part of his current tour.[]
