dailyloe.com – Arike Ogunbowale showcased her scoring ability on Tuesday night, despite the Dallas Wings’ 77-72 loss to the Atlanta Dream. This game marked a continuation of Ogunbowale’s strong start in the new system under coach Jose Fernandez.

Ogunbowale finished the game with 20 points, shooting 7-of-15 from the field. This performance marked her second consecutive game scoring 20 points, following her 22-point output against the Indiana Fever.

She made a significant contribution in the third quarter, scoring 11 points to keep Dallas competitive. The Wings led 41-38 at halftime, but the Dream quickly took the lead in the third period.

Alisha Gray’s three-pointer gave the Dream a 45-43 lead. Ogunbowale responded with a layup and free throw, narrowing the gap to 49-46. Her scoring efforts were crucial as Dallas attempted to regain control.

Near the end of the third quarter, Ogunbowale was fouled while attempting a shot. She successfully made both free throws, giving the Wings a 59-58 lead heading into the final quarter.

As the fourth quarter progressed, Dallas trailed 66-61, but Ogunbowale’s pull-up jump shot reduced the deficit to 66-63. However, the Wings struggled offensively, finishing the game with a field goal percentage of 38.4% and just 15.4% from three-point range.

Ogunbowale’s consistent scoring is a positive sign as she looks to return to form after averaging career-lows last season. Her previous average was 15.5 points per game and a field goal percentage of 36.4%.

Coach Jose Fernandez noted, “She had to take a couple tough ones as it was getting late in the clock. I think she’s getting to the rim more.” Ogunbowale’s efforts are integral as the Wings seek to improve their performance moving forward.
