Pratt publicly acknowledged the situation in a video posted on social media platform X on Monday. He stated he has been living at his father’s rental home in Carpinteria since losing his home in the Palisades fire last year. Carpinteria is located approximately 12 miles south of the city of Santa Barbara.
In the video, Pratt defended his actions, saying he was not considering a future political run when he relocated. He claimed his burned-out property in the Palisades remains his legal residence. Pratt added he recently moved an Airstream trailer to that lot where he now plans to live.
Legal expert Jessica Levinson, a professor at Loyola Marymount University, questioned if Pratt can satisfy the city charter’s residency rule. She stated this situation directly raises that critical legal question for the election. Pratt and his campaign staff did not respond to repeated inquiries from the Los Angeles Times.
Public records show both Pratt and his wife, reality star Heidi Pratt, used a Carpinteria address linked to his parents. Pratt listed it only as a mailing address on his voter registration. Heidi Pratt listed the same address as both her mailing address and her place of residence.[]
