dailyloe.com – Severe storms are possible across parts of Arkansas and Missouri on Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather. This follows a quiet week with virtually no severe weather in the region. The main threats are large hail and potentially a tornado or two.
All Arkansas counties within Region 8 are under the level 2 threat. Southern Missouri is under a lower, level 1 out of 5 threat. Storms are expected to develop a little past the lunch hour. They will then move eastward throughout the afternoon and evening.
The coverage of storms will not be particularly high. Exact timing for specific locations remains in flux. Some areas may miss out on rain altogether. Those that do see rain will likely experience a strong to severe storm.
Areas west of Interstate 57 can expect storms between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. Areas east of Interstate 57 face a threat from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Large hail is the primary risk with any storm that develops. Some hail could be greater than two inches in diameter.
The tornado threat is very low but not zero. A rotating storm is not out of the question. Any tornado that forms should be short-lived and weak. Residents are advised to stay weather-aware.
