dailyloe.com – Ron Perlman revealed how Guillermo del Toro’s film ‘Cronos’ revived his career in a recent press meeting. In the early 90s, Perlman faced depression due to a lack of work, feeling invisible.
He received a letter from Guillermo del Toro, along with a script he described as ‘crazy’ for its vampire story. Perlman shared, ‘I had been in pajamas for almost two years… but then came a letter from Guillermo.’
Del Toro’s script led to a meeting, marking Perlman’s first pure cinematic experience. The independent film had a budget of $1.8 million, which dropped to $1.2 million the night before filming due to an investor pulling out.
Perlman’s career skyrocketed after ‘Cronos.’ Before this film, he participated in about ten productions over a decade. Post-‘Cronos,’ he has worked on over 200 projects, including ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Pacific Rim.’
He noted, ‘If I’m in a big studio movie, it’s because one of my little independent kids made it big and put me there.’ Perlman is currently in Mexico promoting ‘El día de la pelea,’ set to premiere at Cineteca Nacional.
This film, directed by Jack Huston, features Perlman as a boxing trainer, following an ex-boxer reconciling with his past on what seems to be his last day alive.
‘El día de la pelea’ is another independent film that Perlman believes will positively impact his career, similar to ‘Cronos.’
