In an interview with Golf Digest, MacIntyre discussed his experiences on the PGA Tour and his struggles after relocating to the United States. He expressed shock at how quickly he abandoned life in Florida.
MacIntyre explained that he left the U.S. because everything he cares about is in Scotland. He stated, “People are going to like you or dislike you, no matter who you are.” He emphasized the importance of family and friends in his life.
His family, including his sister and parents, reside in Scotland, and he mentioned the challenges posed by the time difference while in the U.S. He noted, “When I’m home in Scotland, I hardly play golf.”
MacIntyre highlighted the significance of mental well-being over physical performance. He stated, “The mental side of the game is far more important than the physical.” His swing technique remains consistent, but his mental attitude changes based on his environment.
He acknowledged the advantages of Florida for practice, citing superior facilities and weather. However, he found the lifestyle in Florida to be overly focused on golf, stating, “Florida was too lonely, too business-like for me.”
MacIntyre believes in the necessity of a work-life balance, which he felt was lacking while living in Florida. He expressed contentment with his decision to return home, where he feels more at ease and can perform better on the golf course.
