dailyloe.com – The Brisbane Broncos are facing a significant setback as forward Corey Jensen is likely to miss at least three months due to a serious injury. Jensen was hospitalized following the Broncos’ victory over the Tigers in Round 7 after a pulmonary embolism was discovered in his lung.
This incident marks Jensen’s second blood clot, following a previous occurrence in his leg last year, which sidelined him for a month. The current situation is more severe, requiring treatment with blood thinners that prevent him from participating in contact sports for a minimum of three months.
Broncos coach Michael Maguire stated on Wednesday that there is no set timeline for Jensen’s return, and there is a possibility he may not return this season. Jensen’s travel for games could further complicate his recovery, as flights to interstate locations increase the risk of additional clots.
<p"He's got a bit of time on the sideline now," Maguire told The Courier Mail. He emphasized the importance of gathering all medical information to understand the cause of Jensen's condition. Jensen is currently receiving care from top specialists and doctors.
While Jensen remains hopeful about returning to play this year, Maguire confirmed that certainty is lacking. “There’s no timeline on it, but I know he’s very keen to keep playing,” Maguire said. “We’ll do everything we can to try and work out how we get him back out on the field when the time’s right.”
Reports indicate that Jensen had approximately one liter of fluid drained from his lungs and has lost about 10kg since his hospitalization. He was discharged this week and attended Broncos training to provide updates to his teammates.
Jensen’s absence adds to the Broncos’ injury woes, with Payne Haas out until Round 12 and Ben Hunt until Round 14. However, Pat Carrigan is returning from suspension this week, and Reece Walsh has also been named to return.
