dailyloe.com – Meta has launched a new iPhone app called Instants, focused on ephemeral photo sharing. This app also serves as a feature within Instagram. The aim is to facilitate spontaneous sharing among friends.
Meta describes Instants as “a new way to share in the moment – with spontaneous, unfiltered photos– with friends.” The photos shared using Instants are ephemeral for viewers but can be archived for up to a year.
These shared photos can be reshared as recaps to Stories. Friends can respond with reactions and replies, which go directly to direct messages. There is also a companion app for faster camera access.
The app includes protections related to Full Teen Accounts and Family Center. Features such as shared time limits, Sleep Mode, and parental supervision are included.
Meta launched Instants to enhance organic social sharing. The company seeks to simplify sharing everyday moments with friends. Instants are accessible in the bottom right corner of the Instagram inbox.
Users can share casual photos that will disappear after being viewed by friends. To utilize the feature, users tap the mini stack of photos in the Instagram inbox.
Users can add captions before sharing but cannot further edit their photos. They can choose to share with Close Friends or mutual followers. Friends may react, reply, and share the Instants as well.
The sharing process allows users to tap a white button below the camera to share multiple times. An undo button appears immediately after sharing, allowing users to retract their post before it’s seen.
Instants will appear as a stack of photos in friends’ inboxes and will disappear after being viewed. Although primarily a feature within Instagram, early testers expressed a desire for quicker access, leading to the development of a standalone app.
The Instants app provides immediate camera access and requires users to log in with their existing Instagram account. This initiative highlights Meta’s commitment to evolving user experiences on the platform.
