dailyloe.com – US lawmakers are demanding investigations into the prediction market Polymarket following reports of suspiciously timed bets on geopolitical events. This call for scrutiny follows an Associated Press report detailing prescient wagers placed on the platform. The report focused on bets made just before a US-Iran ceasefire was announced.

According to the AP report, at least 50 new accounts placed substantial bets on the ceasefire. These bets were made in the hours and minutes before President Donald Trump’s public announcement. The accounts reportedly made no other wagers on the platform.

This incident is not isolated, as similar patterns were observed in other events. In January, an anonymous user profited $400,000 betting on Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro’s capture hours before it happened. Another account made roughly $550,000 betting on US strikes against Iran and the removal of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei just before the conflict began.

These well-timed trades have sparked accusations of potential insider trading on prediction markets. The issue appears to extend beyond these three specific geopolitical incidents. At least one report suggests a broader pattern of concerning activity on such platforms.

Democratic Representative Ritchie Torres is among the lawmakers pushing for a formal inquiry. The calls highlight growing regulatory concerns over decentralized prediction markets. The core question is whether these platforms can be effectively policed for illicit information advantages.[]
