Kipp Popert, ranked No 1 on the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability, has made his debut on the DP World Tour during the Austrian Alpine Open. This significant appearance follows the recent suspension of the Golf For Disabilities (G4D) Tour earlier this year.
As reported by Sky Sports, Popert, who has cerebral palsy, is a 15-time winner on the G4D Tour. His recent achievements include winning the G4D Tour Series Final in Mallorca last year. Furthermore, he made history as the first player to qualify for the R&A’s Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes in 2022.
Popert’s Performance at the Austrian Alpine Open
This week, Popert joined a competitive field in Kitzbuhel, which included notable players such as Sepp Straka, James Morrison, and Brandon Robinson-Thompson. Notably, China’s Yanhan Zhou set the early pace with an impressive eight-under 62 in the first round.
On a warm day in the Austrian Alps, Popert faced challenges, finishing three-over-par through his first nine holes. He demonstrated resilience by making two birdies, but concluded his opening round with a five-over-par 75.
