dailyloe.com – Baltimore filmmaker John Waters made his first appearance on ABC’s talk show ‘The View’ on Thursday. He joined guests Aubrey Plaza and Amy Sedaris for a ten-minute segment. The purpose was to promote a new adult animated comedy series. The series is called ‘Kevin’ and debuts on Amazon Prime Video on April 20.
The show is about a neurotic housecat named Kevin. Kevin breaks up with his owners and moves to a pet rescue facility. There he meets a band of misfit animals. These animals help him realize what he wants from life.
Aubrey Plaza co-created the series with Joe Wengert and Dan Murphy. Plaza plays Dana, one half of the human couple that leaves Kevin behind. She also voices other characters in the eight-episode series. John Waters provides the voice of a character named Armando.
Armando is described as a gorgeous, sarcastic Persian cat. According to Prime’s character description, he has sworn off all humans. He favors the freedom of life as an ‘independent’ cat. Amy Sedaris voices a character named Brandi, a brassy Shih Tzu who runs the pet rescue.
Whoopi Goldberg, a host of ‘The View’, also voices a character. She provides the voice of Cupcake, a feral hairless cat at the pet rescue. The other hosts on Thursday were Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines. The three guests promoted the new series but discussed other topics too.
Aubrey Plaza joked about her pregnancy during the segment. This was her first televised interview since confirming the news this spring. She and actor Christopher Abbott are expecting a baby this fall. Plaza was noticeably pregnant and assured fans that ‘the cat is doing great.’
Amy Sedaris, also a first-time guest, discussed her character’s voice inspiration. She also talked about gift-giving ideas. Much of the segment focused on first-time guest John Waters and his views. Topics ranged from his upcoming 80th birthday on April 22 to a recent ‘No Kings’ rally.
Waters recently participated in a ‘No Kings’ rally in Provincetown. Since he plays a cat in the new show, the hosts asked if he is a cat person. ‘Well, I’m not lonely, so no,’ John Waters replied. He added, ‘People get crazy when I say that…I like cats, but they hide from you.’
Waters further explained his real-life view of cats. ‘If you take their cat box out, they reward you by bringing you a dead mouse,’ he said. He had never chatted on air with the ladies of ‘The View’ until this week. Waters has previously appeared on talk shows hosted by Stephen Colbert and Bill Maher.
He has also been a guest on shows by David Letterman, Craig Ferguson, and John Mulaney. The new series ‘Kevin’ will be available for streaming starting April 20. The promotional appearance marked Waters’ debut on the long-running ABC daytime talk show.
