“For about the last year and a half, a lot of people have been asking me to run for governor,” Morgan said. “It’s a real honor. But I’m not going to do it.” He said his past ballot initiative work accomplished more. He believes this work did more than he could as governor.
Morgan has bankrolled major Florida ballot initiatives. He funded campaigns to legalize medical marijuana. He also funded the push to raise the state’s minimum wage. Both initiatives passed despite a high 60% approval threshold.
He has repeatedly considered running for governor. This includes considering runs in 2018 and for 2026. He ultimately decided the job was not a good fit. He joked about the demands of campaigning and governing.
Morgan prefers spending time with family. He said his lifestyle is incompatible with the office. While ruling out a run, he is not stepping away from politics. He believes most Floridians agree on many issues.
