dailyloe.com – ‘The Sheep Detectives’ features Hugh Jackman as George, a shepherd who loves his flock of sheep. The film is based on the 2005 German novel ‘Three Bags Full’. It opens with the iconic MGM lion, who makes a plaintive ‘BAA’ instead of his usual roar.
Despite the film’s clever start, it struggles to maintain that level of wit throughout. Jackman portrays George, who is devoted to his sheep and reads them murder mysteries. The sheep, in turn, respond with human-like dialogue, which is both amusing and philosophical.
The story takes a dark turn when George is found dead in the pasture, his hands covered in blue and green dye. The sheep, particularly Lily, voiced by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, are grief-stricken and suspect foul play.
Officer Tim Derry, played by Nicholas Braun, is portrayed as bumbling, leading the sheep to believe he is mistaken about George’s death. The film features a strong voice cast, including Emma Thompson, Bryan Cranston, and Patrick Stewart. Directed by Kyle Balda, it runs for 1 hour and 49 minutes and is rated PG.
