dailyloe.com – A hailstorm struck Greene County on April 28, resulting in extensive damage to numerous patrol vehicles. Greene County deputies reported hearing the storm approaching through their radios, prompting them to move vehicles indoors.
Deputy Jonah Beadles from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office stated, “We had extensive damage across our fleet… unfortunately, we just had catastrophic widespread damage.” The storm impacted both the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Springfield and Highway Patrol.
The Republic Police Department also experienced damage, with three new vehicles sustaining dents. Lt. Zach Richards reported, “We had a total of 29 vehicles damaged… we didn’t have very many that weren’t damaged.” The department noted that 12 windshields and two rear windshields were broken.
Repairs are underway to restore the vehicles. Beadles mentioned, “Between yesterday and today, our window service technicians were in promptly… getting a lot of our windshields and windows… prepared so that we could get back on the road.”
Both the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Republic Police Department assured citizens that operations remain unaffected. Richards stated, “Right now, it’s not affecting our operations whatsoever. We’re still handling all the calls as normal.”
The Springfield Police Department reported two totaled vehicles and six with broken windshields due to the storm.
