dailyloe.com – Denver is preparing for a significant weather event this week as a spring storm system approaches. The storm is expected to arrive on Thursday and continue into Friday, impacting the Denver metro area and Colorado’s mountainous regions.
The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team indicates that Denver could receive over 0.5 inches of rain, marking the largest rainfall total in over seven months. Meanwhile, mountain areas above 8,000 feet may see snow accumulations exceeding six inches, particularly east of the Continental Divide.
Rainfall is anticipated throughout most of Thursday in the Denver metro area. As colder air moves in on Thursday night, the precipitation is expected to transition to snow in areas along the Palmer Divide, including Douglas and Elbert counties.
Foothill regions above 6,000 feet, such as Conifer, Evergreen, and Genesee, are likely to experience several inches of slushy snow accumulation. Communities along the southern corridor, including Castle Rock, Larkspur, and Monument Hill, are also forecasted to receive meaningful snowfall Thursday night.
While Denver may see some snowflakes by early Friday morning, the extent of accumulation remains uncertain, contingent on the storm’s intensity. Chris Bianchi, a meteorologist with the 9NEWS Weather Impact Team, stated, “I don’t care if it’s liquid, if it’s solid, we need the water. We’re getting some on Thursday.”
The weather forecast for the week includes a mix of conditions. Wednesday is expected to be partly cloudy with a chance for showers, with a high of 57 and a low of 38. Thursday will be chilly and cloudy with rain likely, reaching a high of 45 and a low of 33.
