dailyloe.com – Kentucky transfer Collin Chandler has committed to play for BYU. The rising junior guard announced his decision to return to his home state of Utah. He entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.
Chandler essentially broke the news himself by saying he was ‘returning home’. He later made his commitment to the Cougars official. The Farmington, Utah native will play for coach Kevin Young in Provo.
On Thursday, Chandler kept the door open for a potential Kentucky return. He closed that door later the same day with a farewell announcement. Chandler thanked Mark Pope and the Wildcats.
‘I am so grateful to Coach Pope, the assistant coaches and staff, my teammates, and the University of Kentucky and BBN for the last 2 years,’ Chandler said. ‘You welcomed me into your family with open arms, were patient with me, and supported me every step of the way.’
He added, ‘You helped me grow so much — not just as a player, but as a man. You will always be family to me. I am returning home and excited for the work and challenges ahead.’
Chandler confirmed his move on social media two days later. ‘I’m coming home,’ he wrote. ‘Cougar nation, let’s rock.’
As a sophomore, the 6-5 guard averaged 9.7 points per game. He also averaged 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. Chandler led Kentucky with 73 made three-pointers.
He shot 41.0 percent from three-point range last season. In SEC play, he averaged 10.5 points per game. Chandler shot 45.7 percent from three during conference games.
He led the SEC in three-point percentage among players with at least 42 makes in that stretch. Only two players in all of high-major college basketball finished ahead of him against league competition. Chandler was a dagger-thrower in SEC play.
Mark Pope is now left with a hole to fill at the starting shooting guard spot. The article wished Chandler the best in Provo. It noted BBN wishes him nothing but the best unless Kentucky faces him next March.[]
