dailyloe.com – Tennis star Coco Gauff returned to social media this week to directly address critics of her appearance in a new advertisement. Gauff posted an eight-minute video on TikTok after a month-long hiatus from social media. She said she became aware of negative comments about her natural hair in the Miu Miu ad.

Gauff explained the behind-the-scenes process of the photoshoot and photo selection. She detailed how she did not want her hair slicked back for the photos. Gauff stated slicking her hair back was not good for her hair.

“There are thousands of people talking about the way that I look, and not in a positive way…” Gauff began in the video. She said she would not apologize for how her hair looked. Gauff noted other girls had the exact same hair as her and she wanted them to feel represented.

“Your hair is literally fine the way it is,” Gauff said. She stated her hair was good enough for a high-fashion brand like Miu Miu. The brand used it to promote one of their newest launches.

“So if my 4C hair is good enough for that, yours is good enough to do whatever it is you need it to do,” Gauff asserted. She firmly stated, “I’m not going to apologize for that.” Gauff also explained she did minimal makeup for the photoshoot.

She opted for minimal makeup rather than a “full face.” Gauff said this was to connect with fans through that “minimum” Miu Miu “aesthetic.” She directly addressed young Black girls watching her message.

“To all the young Black girls out there who have kinky hair like me, do what you want to do with your hair,” Gauff advised. She encouraged them to do what they want with their appearance. Gauff said people who hate on others’ looks have deep insecurities.

“The only reason people comment on people’s looks, especially people who present themselves in their most natural sense, have something deeply wrong with them,” Gauff concluded. She stated these critics are insecure about themselves.[]
