Temperatures will experience a brief spike approaching 70 degrees, but overall, the trend remains below average, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Average high temperatures for May are closer to 65 degrees, and Boston is expected to stay below that for much of the week.
Scattered showers are moving eastward, primarily light at this stage. As they continue, umbrellas will be necessary, although a complete washout is not expected.
The first raindrops are nearing Worcester, and steady rainfall is in progress in the Southbridge area and further west towards Springfield. Rain has also reached Connecticut and Rhode Island.
The next significant threat on the radar is the arrival of steadier rainfall this evening. This round may include pockets of heavier rain and weak thunderstorms.
By midnight tonight, the rain is expected to wrap up, with total accumulation around half an inch, with some models indicating slightly more. This rain will dampen outdoor plans but is considered beneficial.
Tomorrow should offer more dry breaks in the forecast, despite the wet conditions today. Currently, temperatures are cool, with Manchester at 35 degrees, Plymouth at 38 degrees, and Boston at 45 degrees.
As we progress through the afternoon, most areas will remain in the upper 50s, with the possibility of reaching the 60s south of the Pike. However, these temperatures still fall below the mid-60s average expected for this time of year.
Showers are continuing to advance eastward this morning, and by 9:00 AM, umbrellas should remain ready. The only area that may miss out on the morning rain is the South Coast, Cape, and Islands, where showers are just to the north.
