The morning began with partly to mostly cloudy skies and scattered drizzle. A more organized cold front will increase rain chances from late afternoon. Steady light rain is expected during the evening commute in San Francisco and Oakland.
Rain will reach San Jose around 10 p.m. according to forecasts. Rainfall totals should range from a tenth to a quarter of an inch. Localized higher amounts are possible in the hills.
The National Weather Service issued a warning for slick roadways. Oil accumulation during the recent dry spell increases hazards. Drivers should exercise caution during the wet conditions.
This follows scattered showers that broke a dry streak on Tuesday. Wednesday’s system is more widespread and organized. It is also accompanied by noticeable gusty winds.
Dry weather will return by midmorning on Thursday. A significant warming trend will then follow. Highs are forecast to reach the 70s to mid-80s by the weekend.
This cool, wet interlude comes after a record-hot March. The Bay Area recently experienced its hottest March on record. Forecasters had also predicted a potentially warm April.[]
