dailyloe.com – The Milwaukee Brewers have recalled right-handed pitcher Coleman Crow to start tonight’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This start will mark his major league debut. In a corresponding move, the team optioned right-hander Easton McGee to Triple-A Nashville.
Coleman Crow is 25 years old and was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels. He was traded twice as a minor league player. In June 2023, the Angels acquired Eduardo Escobar from the New York Mets, sending Crow to Queens as part of the deal.
Shortly after that trade, Crow required Tommy John surgery. In December 2023, the Mets traded Crow to the Milwaukee Brewers for Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor. He missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from his surgery.
Crow returned to the mound for the 2025 season. He made 12 starts split between Double-A and Triple-A, logging 50 innings pitched. He posted a 3.24 ERA with a 32% strikeout rate during that time.
His walk rate was 6% and his ground ball rate was 49.2%. The Brewers added him to their 40-man roster at the end of last year. This move prevented him from becoming a minor league free agent.
In November, FanGraphs ranked him as the number 20 prospect in the Brewers’ system. That report suggested he had some starter traits but could end up as a reliever. This was due to his health track record and a lack of a plus pitch that moves away from left-handed hitters.
At Triple-A last year, Crow threw six different pitches. His arsenal included a fastball, sinker, cutter, slider, curveball, and changeup. He used the changeup only 3.1% of the time. The Brewers are still hoping he can develop into a starting pitcher.
This year, Crow made his first two appearances as a Triple-A starter. His third outing was technically in relief, but he pitched five innings behind Logan Henderson. Overall, he has thrown 15 and two-thirds innings this year with a 4.02 ERA.
Tonight’s promotion may be just a spot start for Crow. The Brewers’ rotation includes Jacob Misiorowski, Kyle Harrison, Chad Patrick, Brandon Sproat, and Brandon Woodruff. Both Harrison and Sproat had minor knee issues in the past week.
Crow taking one start could give the rotation more rest. This plan avoids placing any pitchers on the injured list. Crow has a full slate of minor league options remaining. He could be sent back to the minors after this start if that is the team’s plan.[]
