dailyloe.com – Xander Bogaerts hit a walk-off grand slam in the 12th inning Thursday night, giving the San Diego Padres a 7-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. The dramatic victory at Petco Park ended the Rockies’ four-game winning streak. The game lasted over four hours and went into extra innings.

Bogaerts connected on a 1-0 pitch from reliever Valente Bellozo with the bases loaded. The hit was his ninth career grand slam and his second since joining the Padres. It followed intentional walks to Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado.

Padres reliever David Morgan earned the win by retiring all five batters he faced. He entered the game in the 11th inning with two runners on base. His performance kept the Padres in contention for the late comeback.

The game saw multiple lead changes in the extra frames. Brett Sullivan’s RBI double gave Colorado a 3-2 lead in the 11th. Luis Campusano then tied it with a two-out double for San Diego.

Earlier, Tyler Freeman’s RBI single put Colorado ahead 2-1 in the 10th. Manny Machado answered with a sacrifice fly to level the score again. The back-and-forth action defined the late innings.

Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle hit his first homer of the season in the third inning. His solo shot off Padres starter Randy Vásquez gave Colorado an early 1-0 lead. Vásquez struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings.

Padres closer Mason Miller struck out the side in the ninth inning on just ten pitches. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 27.2 innings dating back to last season. Miller has 58 strikeouts during that dominant run.

Rockies player Hunter Goodman exited the game in the sixth inning. He suffered a laceration on his right middle finger after being hit by a pitch. His status for upcoming games was not immediately known.

The Padres improved their record to 7-6 with the victory. The Rockies fell to 6-7 after the tough extra-inning loss. The series continues this weekend in San Diego.[]
